Position Summary

An editor for Academic Programs is responsible for editing course materials (curriculum or assessments) according to WGU standards. The role requires proofreading, copy-editing, and substantive editing throughout the course development process. The editor collaborates with a team of content and development experts to ensure a consistent, quality course experience for each student. Job Responsibilities

  • Edits program and course materials, including proofreading, copy-editing, and substantive editing during the development process

  • Edits according to internal and external style guides

  • Ensures course materials adhere to WGU standards

  • Oversees the editing of assigned projects from start to finish as the lead editor

  • Collaborates with project team members to ensure high-quality courses and adherence to timelines

  • Attends project meetings, proactively providing editorial feedback when necessary

  • Ensures course materials are accessible to students with disabilities

  • Assists with team projects, including style guide updates and training

  • Aids in other department projects as necessary


Required Skills

Required Skills

  • Ability to edit, including proofreading, copy-editing, and substantive editing skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, especially the Track Changes feature

  • Working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to work effectively in teams

  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once

Required Experience

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, editing, or related field

  • 2 years of editing experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience editing curriculum or assessments preferred
