DESCRIPTION Brilliance Publishing, part of the Amazon group of companies, is looking to hire a candidate who has an outstanding track record in opening up content acquisition pipelines and identifying, developing and closing new business opportunities. In the role of Sr. Acquisitions Editor, Business Development - Audiobooks, you will apply strategic thinking and launch new initiatives that deliver results and drive our content acquisition goals forward. In addition to well-honed acquisition skills, the ideal candidate is a thought-leader and has proven experience developing and maintaining relationships with content owners and licensors, negotiating complex agreements, developing new business models or deal terms and is able to deliver results in a fast-paced environment. We're looking for candidates who are able to juggle multiple, time-sensitive priorities with ease and remain cool and calm under pressure. This role requires ownership, innovation, and a very strong bias for action. Position details: Your day-to-day focus will include: * Generating new content pipelines or business opportunities that will result in lead generation and editorial submissions, then converting those leads and submissions into acquisitions * Leveraging internal and external assets and connections to drive strategic acquisitions * Proactively identify and resolve obstacles that may block or reduce our ability to meet financial or strategic goals * Using data to monitor rights, format, category trends, sales, and customer review data for audiobooks * Developing and maintaining strong relationships with authors, content creators, literary agents, publishers, as well as traditional and new media companies * Identifying significant acquisition opportunities and presenting to internal stakeholders for approvals * Presenting polished, comprehensive and innovative offers to external parties * Working closely with internal stakeholders (e.g. Finance, Contracts, Studio and Marketing) to kick off your titles or projects from acquisition to contracting BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Basic Qualifications * BA/BS required in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field * 7 or more years of experience as an acquisitions editor, literary agent or in business development identifying, evaluating, and acquiring content * 7 or more years of direct experience negotiating book, media, or other content-related contracts * Strong proficiency with MS Office, particularly Excel and Word PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preferred Qualifications * A strong aptitude for critical thinking and problem solving * A deep history of delivering results by meeting or exceeding goals * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Experience using data to shape and launch business strategies or direction * Experience in publishing, business development or sales * Experience acquiring, developing, or pitching content across multiple categories * Proven editorial judgment and experience working with top authors and executives * Strong analytical skills; the ability and desire to use a variety of data to make decisions, back up proposals and forecasting, and to measure results * Demonstrated creativity in identifying new business opportunities * Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment * Interested in pop culture, current events, and new media platforms * Experience publishing content in digital formats * Frequent travel as needed to company offices in New York, Seattle and Grand Haven, Michigan Amazon is an Equal Opportunity-Affirmative Action Employer – Minority / Female / Disability / Veteran / Gender Identity / Sexual Orientation
