Notkin Mechanical Engineersis seeking an HR Generalist/Technical Editor to join our team in downtown Seattle. The HR Generalist/Technical Editor will be involved in all aspects of human resource administration as well as provide technical editing through a wide variety of tasks, such as the following:

Human Resources

  • Administer employee benefit programs (medical, dental, vision, EAP, FSA, and 401k); coordinate enrollments, changes, and updates internally with accounting and externally with providers.

  • Analyze and recommend modifications to compensation and benefit policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements. Coordinate benefit contract bids and selection process.

  • Coordinate the recruiting and hiring process which typically includes posting ads, screening applications, travel arrangements, assisting in interviews, and selection. Responsible for writing job descriptions, employment ads, and maintaining recruitment brochure.

  • Manage onboarding by planning and conducting new hire orientations to foster positive attitude toward organizational objectives, and provide information about policies, procedures, and employee benefits. Oversee obtainment of resources needed for new employees (phone, computer, etc.).

  • Responsible for E-Verify and new hire reporting.

  • Administer the employee review process.

  • Conduct exit interviews; process related forms and COBRA administration.

  • Maintain the Employee Handbook by preparing, updating, and recommending policies and procedures.

  • Maintain compliant employee records, files, and appropriate documents.

  • Advise on organizational policy matters (such as equal employment opportunity) and recommend needed changes.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.

  • Develop and/or administer special projects.

  • Back up to processing payroll, including maintaining employee information in payroll system, (including reviewing time sheets, posting time and reimbursables, uploading to payroll provider, reconcile time sheets to payroll, transmit, download payroll files, and upload files to 401k administrator, posting the payroll to GL, and distribute reports to management and handing out the money).

Technical Editor

  • Consult technical staff to ensure common understanding of documents to be proofread, edited, or typed. Editing guidelines for reports and other special client documents are developed with the team.

  • Proofread and edit all documents for clarity of content, style, grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, usage, consistency, and format. Correct errors and make suggested changes.

  • Ensure all documents meet company and client formatting standards.

  • Maintain and update Notkin’s master specification.

  • Back check own work for accuracy and thoroughness to ensure quality.

  • Assist in creation and maintenance of correspondence templates.

  • Provide project administrative support to technical staff.

  • Assist and support office operations, such as relieving the Front Desk Coordinator for lunch and breaks, picking-up and distributing mail, putting away office supplies and other initiatives important to the firm's overall efficiency as part of the administrative team.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, English, or ten years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of six years’ human resource experience, in roles of increasing responsibility. A&E industry experience a plus.

  • Two years’ experience as a word processor/proofreader or equivalent (A&E industry experience a plus).

  • Knowledge of federal and state employment regulations.

  • PHR/SPHR preferred.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Thorough knowledge of MS Excel, and Outlook and advanced knowledge of MS Word.

  • This position requires a strong command of the English language as well as knowledge of style, grammar, punctuation and word usage.

  • Ability to type 65WPM.

  • Familiarity with Gregg Reference Manual style.

  • Team orientation, enthusiasm, and loads of flexibility.
