Writes a variety of technical articles, reports, brochures, and/or manuals for documentation for a wide range of uses. Coordinates the display of graphics and the production of the document. Responsible for content of technical documentation.
Functional Responsibilities: The primary duties of the Technical Editor are editing a wide range of documents and other customer deliverables to include but not limited to product evaluationplans and reports, observation results, meeting minutes, standard operating procedures, checklists, official memoranda, etc. Other activities include taking attendance before meeting, taking meeting minutes and transcribing them as an official document, as well as assisting in the creation and maintenanceof a variety of templates.
Individual should be well versed in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of tools primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. This individual should be familiar with the proper rules of formatting, grammar, spelling, punctuation, citations, etc. in order to make documents publishable. Familiarity with AFH 33-337, "The Tongue & Quill," or similar editing guideis a plus. Familiarity with the required markings of classified documents is desirable. A familiarity with the information technology (IT) profession is helpful. Familiarity with the operations tempo of an Air Force flight(or higher) or military serviceequivalent is also helpful.
Personality Type: The Technical Editor must possess a great attention to detail, which is paramount in fulfilling daily editing and proofreading activities for leadership. This individual must be self-motivated and able to work with little to no supervision. This position demands someone who can function in a very dynamic and fluid work environment and who is flexible enough to adjust their workload accordingly. Further, a forthright attitude, excellent communication skills, theability to take direction as a team member, and constant professionalism are of the utmost importance.
- Checks author's document for spelling, grammar and content problems (e.g., missing instructions or sections; redundant or unnecessary sections)
- Ensures that documents follow the style laid out in the organization's style guide
- May also be responsible for maintaining the style guide
- Suggests revisions to the style guide as appropriate
- Active TS/SCI government clearance, or be adjudicated TS/SCI eligible upon query in JPAS
- BA/BS degree
- Familiarity with Agile development and Scrum process
