The Medical Literacy Editor is responsible for editing patient education documents to comply with health literacy and plain language principles as outlined in the Patient Engagement Editorial Guideline documents. The editor will work with internal subject matter experts and the Content Coordinator to ensure all content is accurate and complies with Elsevier Patient Engagement editorial guidelines.
Working hours: 8 AM - 5 PM
--Bachelor Degree or higher in English, journalism, or related degree.
--Editorial experience and working knowledge of medical/healthcare subject matter and familiarity with medical terminology.
--High level of organizational skills with documents, database management, files, spreadsheets, and email.
--Excellent command of the English language in both spoken and written forms
--Strong writing skills with a clear concise style and excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
--Intermediate/high computer skill competency. Proficiency in a Microsoft Windows environment; strong MS Word skills; and ability to work with templates using an electronic content management system.
--Have a working knowledge of various document file formats including html, xml, rtf, and pdf.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews documents to ensure compliance with Elsevier Patient Engagement format, guidelines, and templates as outlined in department guidelines and templates to maintain uniformity across the document library.
Edits documents for grammar, punctuation, and understandability while also editing for consistency in style and language, as necessary. Verifies reading level of each document, primarily using the Flesch-Kincaid scoring system within editorial system.
Meets deliverable deadlines by planning and prioritizing projects appropriately.
Utilizes editorial systems and functions within systems to analyze, report, and review information as necessary and ultimately work to improve functionalities or suggest new functionalities to improve process.
Displays time management skills; models business etiquette; shares knowledge and expertise.
Other duties or tasks as assigned by the Manager, Patient Engagement Content or VP/ Editor in Chief, Patient Engagement Content.
