New York Times Staff Editor, News Desk in New York, New York
The News Desk is seeking a staff editor to execute the framing, presentation and promotion of New York Times stories on our core digital platforms, including the home screen and mobile push alerts.
This editor’s main responsibility will be to operate the publishing systems that underlie those platforms.
She or he may also be called on to collaborate with the teams that build and shape our digital products, including the home screen, the article template, messaging platforms and various efforts to craft more personal experiences of The Times.
This editor must be graceful, efficient and collegial under pressure, set wise priorities among many tasks and synthesize the direction of multiple supervisors.
Strong writing and editing skills, and knowledge of Times style or the ability to absorb and apply it quickly, are essential.
This editor will routinely write display and promotional copy, including headlines, and will read our work avidly and critically.
Three or more years of experience as a digital news editor.
Excellence in news judgment, audience-sensitive framing and writing mechanics.
External candidates who are finalists for the position will complete a Times editing test and an assessment of digital presentation skills.
Candidates should also be adept with digital publishing systems and able to master complex tools. And we value an eye for imagery, layout and smart use of design elements. We welcome experience with analytics and a well-formed view on how we can act on them to build stronger relationships with our readers.
