Job Description

The New York Times Magazine is seeking research editors.

Magazine research editors fact check articles ranging from short front-of-the-book essays or columns to long-form pieces on national affairs, international politics, science and culture.

Applicants must have three to five years of experience fact checking for a national publication, preferably a weekly, general-interest magazine, and be able to independently verify the accuracy of articles on short deadline.

Candidates must be able to communicate and collaborate effectively with writers, editors and sensitive or difficult sources, and be able to work under deadline pressure in an unpredictable news production environment. He or she must have rigorous journalistic skills and ethical standards. An ability to work quickly and accurately and juggle changing texts and late nights is essential.

Comfort with esoteric subjects is also vital, as is the ability to work on pieces that focus on statistics, finance or legal issues.
