Job Description

Managing editor

We’re looking for an obsessively organized Managing Editor to be responsible for the internal operational flow of our 70-person distributed editorial team. This person reports directly to the Editor-in-chief.


  • Point person for obsessing over operational efficiency and getting stuff done

  • Creates and maintains systems for tracking content - Airtable, Basecamp, Trello, with an eye towards designing a system that brings all the systems together.

  • Manage contracts and invoices

  • Works with executive editor to manage overall budget for conferences, travel, freelancers

  • Manages testing budget, freelance requests for senior editor reports. Liaison with Finance for the Editorial department.

  • Works with Executive Editor and Strategy Editor to translate strategy into an editorial calendar of assignments.

  • Taking input from SEO and Analytics to provide edit-facing reporting that we can use to inform editorial direction.

  • Coordinates with Updates Editor to ensure freshness of core guides

  • Coordinates with Growth team on syndications and marketing

  • Coordinates internal communications to staff (newsletter, announcements, bonuses, hiring, org chart))

  • Manages production

Requirements :

  • 5+ years of experience working at a media company dealing with budgets, database management, contracts, invoices, hiring.

  • Experience working with remote teams with asynchronous communication preferred.

  • Prefer candidates in New York City. This is NOT a work from home position.
