New York Times Managing Editor in New York, New York
We’re looking for an obsessively organized Managing Editor to be responsible for the internal operational flow of our 70-person distributed editorial team. This person reports directly to the Editor-in-chief.
Point person for obsessing over operational efficiency and getting stuff done
Creates and maintains systems for tracking content - Airtable, Basecamp, Trello, with an eye towards designing a system that brings all the systems together.
Manage contracts and invoices
Works with executive editor to manage overall budget for conferences, travel, freelancers
Manages testing budget, freelance requests for senior editor reports. Liaison with Finance for the Editorial department.
Works with Executive Editor and Strategy Editor to translate strategy into an editorial calendar of assignments.
Taking input from SEO and Analytics to provide edit-facing reporting that we can use to inform editorial direction.
Coordinates with Updates Editor to ensure freshness of core guides
Coordinates with Growth team on syndications and marketing
Coordinates internal communications to staff (newsletter, announcements, bonuses, hiring, org chart))
5+ years of experience working at a media company dealing with budgets, database management, contracts, invoices, hiring.
Experience working with remote teams with asynchronous communication preferred.
Prefer candidates in New York City. This is NOT a work from home position.
