The specialty division of HarperCollins Christian Publishing offers a unique opportunity to take part in creating content that inspires the world and honors Jesus Christ. This team is in search of an editor who will be responsible for the acquisition, editorial, and product development of gift, devotional, and children’s products. This individual will work with the associate publishers and publisher to identify, research, present, and facilitate the acquisition of these books for Tommy Nelson children’s books, Nelson Gift, and Zondervan Gift. We work with a broad range of authors including Sarah Young, Max Lucado, Lisa Bevere, John Eldredge, Lysa Terkeurst, Chris Tomlin and many other leading Christian communicators.
Essential Responsibilities:
Maintain a consistent and multi-faceted publishing pipeline, in accordance with the Publisher and publishing team strategy and philosophy.
Proactively participate in regular editorial meetings and pub boards.
Identify market trends and felt needs of readers.
Actively acquire new titles and authors—consistent with publishing strategy and financial goals.
Provide timely communication with current and potential authors and their agents regarding the status of their proposals and/or future projects and backlist titles.
Negotiate with associate publisher to determine financial benchmarks for each product.
Present titles at sales conference.
Participate in creative development of titles, descriptive copy, and covers for books acquired.
Work Experience:
- Proven success as an acquisitions editor, and 4 years of experience in publishing. Macro editing experience a plus.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Writing, Journalism, Publishing, Theology, or equivalent degree required.
Industry Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the ABA and CBA trade book market, leading authors, and publishers is required.
