Communications Specialist - Copywriter / Editor
Do you enjoy using words, images, and digital media to simplify and convey complex topics? Can you spot and correct typos and grammatical errors that other people miss? Are you skilled at transforming blank pages (or screens) into creative, compelling communications that simultaneously persuade and entertain?
The Marketing Specialist, Copywriter/Editor, is first and foremost an excellent writer and marketing communications professional. The ideal candidate also has knowledge of the government IT products/services market with experience in business-to-business and business-to-government marketing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Write and/or edit marketing content for press releases, emails, e-newsletters, social media posts, sales collateral, case studies, articles, blogs, web pages, event invitations, landing pages, advertisements, award submissions and presentations
Conceive and create marketing materials for a variety of media (digital, print, sales tools, radio, video, etc.)
Review and edit marketing materials to ensure quality control and compliance with branding and writing guidelines
Work closely with a designer to develop collateral, promotional assets and graphics
Lead the development of marketing videos, including scripting and storyboarding and working closely with video professionals for production
Execute a social media strategy that includes sharing content that builds the brand and encourages users to take action
Share copywriting and creative best practices with a team of nearly 30 marketing professionals
BA/BS Degree in English, marketing, communications, journalism or a related field (with heavy emphasis on written communications)
3-6 years of experience in a role that involves copywriting and editing for business-to-business and/or business-to-government marketing with responsibility for branding, awareness, content development and/or public relations
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team environment under tight deadlines and be able to manage multiple priorities
Highly Desirable Attributes
2+ years of experience with an organization focused in the government IT industry (contractor or marketing agency experience preferred)
Ability to develop creative concepts and translate them into practical marketing deliverables
Proven track record of writing and editing clean, compelling, creative marketing copy and business content
Technology and software expertise: extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and social media platforms
Understanding of business models and content employed in marketing and selling technology to the government
Knowledge of AP Style
Self-motivated team player with the ability to work independently as well as with others
Strong project management skills
