Why this role matters

You will be part of a small team editing and updating key pages on the hugely-popular website and BT Sport app. You will also create articles and features that engage existing subscribers, and attract new ones, by bringing to life BT Sport’s incredible rights portfolio on our digital platforms.

What you'll be doing

  • Creating headlines, teasers and images to promote multimedia content on the homepages and other key pages of and the BT Sport app

  • Working closely with the video production and social teams to set the day’s content agenda, including close collaboration around live events

  • Writing engaging features that promote our rich rights portfolio – football, rugby, boxing, UFC, MotoGP, tennis and more

  • Conducting and writing up interviews with our on-air personalities and pundits, such as Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Lawrence Dallaglio

  • Writing articles regarding rights and fixture announcements, product explainers (e.g. How to watch BT Sport in VR) or covering a positive brand-focused story (e.g. BT Sport’s charitable work)

  • Making sure your copy is aligned to tone of voice guidelines and is customer-centric

  • Working with stakeholders throughout the editorial process, gaining approval and responding to feedback

  • Influencing and learning from other editors by pooling knowledge, sharing best practice guidelines and industry insight

  • Working across a 7-day rota including some weekend and evening shifts to cover a busy sporting calendar

We'll also need to see these on your CV

You’ll have good commercial experience editing website(s) and/or app(s) for a well-known sports brand or publisher

You’ll have experience managing live sports events on digital platforms

You’ll have a thorough understanding and working knowledge of content management systems

You’ll be highly proficient in Photoshop

You’ll have a fantastic writing style, meticulous eye for detail and excellent subbing skills

You’ll have a deep knowledge of several sports in our portfolio and the ability to write/edit content in those subject fields

You’ll have a portfolio of written work that demonstrates creativity, flair and success

You’ll be confident interviewing sports stars and personalities – able to entice that killer line or hook that makes your interview stand out from the crowd

You’ll have an understanding of digital success metrics (e.g. content engagement, delivering subscription leads) and take a proactive approach to helping us exceed targets

In the first 12 months you'll:

  • Create and manage content that brings to life our rights portfolio – including the Champions League, Premier League, domestic and European rugby, world title boxing, UFC, tennis, MotoGP and more

  • Interview BT Sport’s top talent and guests

  • Feed into requirements for how we improve the CMS and front-end customer experience of our website and app

  • Write content that helps subscribers understand the benefits of our products and get the most out of BT Sport

  • Be part of a growing team, improving engagement numbers every year

  • Help promote and drive uptake of our cutting-edge technology, such as 360 VR and our enhanced digital video player
