Focus on the Family Temp P/T Sr. Associate Editor - Special Assignments in Colorado Springs, Colorado

The Temporary Sr. Associate Editor - *Special Assignmentsposition exists to work closely with the FOTF Associate Contributors such as Dr. Meg Meeker to provide and distribute content on behalf of the ministry. Primary responsibility will be to aggregate the Associate Contributor’s existing content and repurpose it across various broadcast, podcast, social media, website and print media channels. This position will also serve as a researcher, editor [some writing] to assist Focus channel owners *leveraging existing Associate Contributor content and assisting in the development and procurement of new content with the Associate Contributor.

  • Develops article and content ideas that are consistent with Focus on the Family’s mission

  • Coordinates with other departments as directed by Director of Content Development

SHORT TERM ASSIGNMENT [SIX MONTHS *[based on successful completion of each assignment]*- 20 HOURS PER WEEK/ON CAMPUS [COLORADO SPRINGS, CO]]

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:**

BRIO: Assists in the editorial development of a regular column

PODCASTS: Organizes and edits content on grand parenting and parenting adult children 2x month; for both Boundless and Marriage podcasts

BROADCAST: Provides prep for a minimum 6x sessions annually as co-host and/or guest

MAGAZINE: Assists in the writing of a feature length story for Focus mag 2x annually; provides a bi-monthly grand-parenting column

WEB ARTICLES: Writes weekly web articles utilizing existing content

BLOG: Is guest blogger for President Jim Daly 12x per year—6 new and 6 repurposed; regular contributor on Parenting Blog regarding adult children, grand parenting, and a pediatrician’s view into parenting

SOCIAL MEDIA: Provides talking points and prep for Meg Meeker’s social media opportunities such as FB live, Periscope, Twitter

PRESS: Assists Associate Contributor in writing quarterly op-ed pieces for the press

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

Performs all other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, or English

3-5 years of successful writing or editing experience

Working knowledge of FOF mission, philosophy, values, and objectives

Experience mentoring junior team members

Experience managing projects, estimating resources, timeframes and planning, etc.

Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS and other web concepts (Sitecore experience preferred)

Knowledge of website strategies and information design for targeting specific audiences

Knowledge of Best Practice Standards and Usability and Accessibility Testing

Experience using Content Management Systems and archiving web content

General marketing experience desired
