Dream Editor Job in Idaho’s Magic Valley

The Times-News in Twin Falls, Idaho, is seeking an enterprise editor in charge of our Big Story section, a four-page spread in every Sunday edition focusing on watchdog reporting, investigative journalism and top-notch storytelling.
Recent story examples include piecing together a string of pharmacy robberies that shed light on the nation’s opioid crisis, a three-part story on problems in Idaho’s foster care system, a multi-part project on the growing Hispanic population of a nearby city and a yearlong series following a refugee family who landed in Twin Falls the day the state’s governor announced he supported halting refugee arrivals.
You’ll work one-on-one with reporters and photographers in developing project ideas weeks or months in advance, methodically edit stories and guide the whole package through the design process.
This is a dream job for journalists who love fantastic storytelling and the kinds of pieces that change lives, public policy and the way people think.
You’ll also work with other managers on our daily digital strategy, assisting on breaking news when needed and pushing stories on social media.
This position also produces the weekly Outdoors section, giving you a chance to get out of the office and explore some of the most scenic settings in the United States. It’s one of our most popular feature sections and includes local columns and reader-submitted content.
The Magic Valley has a population of about 185,000 and is one of the fastest-growing communities in the Northwest. The economy is booming as it shifts from traditional agriculture to high-tech food science and manufacturing.
Chobani built the world’s largest yogurt factory here, and Clif Bar recently opened its first in-house bakery here. We are a family-friendly and affordable community with access to world-class skiing, and the best trout stream in the West an hour drive from your front door, not to mention access to kayaking, hiking, biking, rock climbing and hunting in all directions.
Downtown Twin Falls is undergoing a $17 million renovation, with new restaurants and shops opening all the time. We are two hours from Boise and three hours from Salt Lake City.
A year or more of editing experience at a daily is preferred. Previous management experience is a plus.
Must be comfortable using social media to promote stories.
Must be self-motivated, innovative and creative.
Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism in the workplace.
Possess a bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field or equivalent hands-on experience.
