The St. Louis-Post Dispatch is seeking an Assistant Metro Editor to help plan and coordinate aggressive, innovative and balanced local news coverage for all of our digital and print platforms.
This editor will help drive the development of great ideas and storytelling, will help guide and nurture the newsroom staff and will supervise a team of reporters.

QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires excellent news judgment and journalism skills, plus a commitment to both meaningful local news and digital-first journalism. We want someone with a strong sense of urgency, as well as depth, fairness, and sophistication in developing news coverage.
This person must know how to jump-start staff for the big stories, be unflappable under the pressure of breaking news and relentless in not letting news fall through the cracks. And he or she must have strong planning and editing skills as well as experience in developing watchdog, enterprise and analytical reporting. Plus, the candidate needs to know how to be a collaborative coach who instinctively understands how to help talented personnel perform their best work.
Candidates also must have:
- At least five years of newsroom experience with an outstanding ability to communicate and to impart excellence in reporting, editing and production on multiple platforms;
- The ability to work effectively with colleagues in other departments;
- Creativity to encourage and develop a variety of new technologies, stories and presentation ideas;
- A commitment to listening to and engaging our audiences.
