About the Position:Serve as the United States Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command's (USASMDC & ARSTRAT's) Writer-Editor (Speechwriter).

The city of Huntsville is nestled between the edge of the Appalachian Mountains in north Alabama and the Tennessee River. The Huntsville area has one of the largest research parks in the U.S. It is also home to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, championship golf courses, museums, professional theater, symphony, and sport franchises.

Duties
  • Serves as the Writer-Editor (Speechwriter) for the Commanding General, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command, and provides editorial support for the command.
  • As editor, incumbent regularly reviews all written material for the organization for editorial quality, consistency, and compliance with established style, format, and content to ensure that products adhere to government style and format requirements.
  • Edits and writes other material, including Congressional testimony on the agency position on matters before Congress, and correspondence to the Secretary of the Army, Secretariat, and members of Congress.

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: writing and advising on a wide range of communication issues to convey an organization's strategic message; Perform editorial reviews on sensitive written material and products developed throughout the organization for editorial quality, consistency, and compliance with established style, format and conduct. Writing to educate and inform a variety of audiences through numerous forums (speeches, presentations, briefings, professional articles, correspondence, etc.). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-03).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of publishing concepts, practices and editing policy for media use
  • Skill in writing sensitive communication products that may be released to Congress, news media and the public
  • Ability to research information to prepare presentations
  • Ability to edit all types of written material

Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade (or equivalent).

  • Maybe required to occasionally work weekends, holidays and on-call to support the commanding general.
