Job Description: The Wolters Kluwer Health Learning, Research & Practice group located in New York, NY, Philadelphia PA and Baltimore, MD is searching for a Senior Publisher to join our Medical Publishing Team.

•Set strategic business direction for assigned portfolio of society-owned and proprietary journals based on market opportunities and potential for growth based on industry/competitive analysis, idea generation, and site and marketplace research.

•Actively develop and pursue new publishing opportunities based on assigned acquisitions targets. Acquire and/or respond to new product or new partnership proposals (i.e. New society journals, proprietary affiliations, portals, CE/CME expansion).

•Manage journal/portfolio P&Ls for to meet or exceed ROI/profitability targets. Participate in regular budgeting and forecasting process and proactively adjust product plan to improve/achieve performance.

•Negotiate sound editor, society, and sponsorship contracts (new and renewal), including preparing and analyzing financial data.

•Effectively manage internal/external editorial resources and relationships to ensure operational efficiency.

•Collaborate with internal departments including Product Management, Production, Sales, and Marketing to achieve financial and strategic results

•Gather and analyze performance data and KPIs to prepare publishing reports to professional associations and editorial boards. Provide reports on product updates, web metrics, digital deliver and other key indicators as required.

•Evaluate Editor in chief or other Editorial support performance. For proprietary titles, manage succession planning, searches, and contract negotiations for Editors.

•In collaboration with Production, ensure on-time publishing in all media.

•Maintain and enhance the value proposition to subscribers/visitors to print, web and digital content, job board and other ancillary sites, in order to increase subscriptions and traffic, member registrations, repeat visits and profitability.

•Develop new products for print and e-growth (including new journals, apps, e-newsletters, commercial e-mails, videos, podcasts, webcasts and virtual conferences, etc.) based on strategic priorities, industry experience, idea generation, site technology capabilities, staff resources, and site and marketplace research.

•Expand into new or ancillary markets based on pharmaceutical & product pipelines, changes in market conditions and supported by Market Research.

•Keep abreast of industry developments, becomes an expert with respect to the competition, and projects future trends in print, online and mobile product delivery services.

•Conduct competitive analysis and monitor emerging market trends to identify areas for differentiation and improvement.

•Attend industry events including new media programs in order to enhance skills & knowledge in online, digital and mobile publishing.

Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree, or if no degree, 8 years of publishing experience.

Required Experience:

• 5 years of STM (Science, Technology, & Medical) publishing experience.

Preferred Experience:

• 3 years print and online product development and management experience preferred.

• 5 years of journal publishing experience preferred.

• Strong financial analysis and financial modeling skills.

• Experienced at defining product requirements for high traffic media websites.

• Experience in management and execution of major projects with strong problem solving skills.

• Demonstrate proven organizational and planning skills while exhibiting detail oriented behavior.

• Excellent writing, communication, negotiation and presentation skills.


• 15% – 20%

• Travel required between WKH office locations (Philadelphia, New York, and Baltimore)

• Domestic travel to conferences, strategic planning meetings, etc. International travel may be required.

• Must have a valid passport, or the ability to obtain one.
