The Clinical Nurse Editor is responsible for providing accurate, relevant, complete, consistent, current, evidence-based clinical content for assigned product(s) on-time and on-budget. The Clinical Editor manages all phases of the content development cycle for all assigned product deliverables, whether delivered in print or electronic format.
•Initiate all clinical pre-transmittal workflow steps to ensure on-time delivery of content.
•Assist the editorial assistant to identify qualified contributors and reviewers for new content development or revision.
•Develop and provide clear clinical guidelines for contributors, reviewers, freelance clinical editors, and vendors.
•Direct and consult with contributors to ensure manuscripts obtained contain accurate, useful, and complete information.
•Engage, supervise and direct freelance clinical editors or vendors to assist with various clinical tasks or workflow steps.
•Review all clinical information in content before transmittal to the product manager to ensure it is accurate, relevant, complete, consistent, current, and evidence-based. Edit and rewrite text as needed. This includes communicating with contributors/reviewers and other authorities as necessary to resolve any questions.
•Clinically mange the components of project(s) in different states of development simultaneously.
•Assist with the development of products, including but not limited to reviewing competition, developing outlines, determining content sources, and commissioning manuscripts.
•Consult with product managers, designers, marketers, and other personnel as needed to help them understand nursing concepts and scientific or medical information.
•Accurately and completely prepare and deliver all required components at transmittal.
•Monitor clinical budgets, recommend and institute changes when necessary.
•Participate in new product development or product expansion, including but not limited to writing project rationales, developing tables of contents and samples, as requested; and soliciting new ideas at conferences and special workshops or focus sessions.
•Perform other related clinical editorial tasks as needed
•College degree – Master of Science (MSN) required; advanced practice nurse (nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist preferred); RN licensure.
•4+ years of current acute care clinical nursing experience required. One year of clinical editing experience (preferred)
•This position can be a career path from the Senior Clinical Editor position.
•General computer literacy and specific demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Office software – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
•Strong knowledge of the Nursing market
•Flexible team player able to handle fast pace and multiple assignments
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Ability to supervise and direct freelancers or vendors
•Strong detail orientation combined with broad conceptual understanding
•Effective analytical, judgment, and decision-making skills
•Effective people skills: flexibility, diplomacy, and cooperative attitude
•Strong time management skills; ability to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines
•Clinical editing experience
•Continued practice as a per diem nurse or APN or adjunct faculty role
•Available to travel as needed (limited)
