Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation Entry Level Technical Editor/Writer in NISKAYUNA, New York

Write, rewrite and/or edit technical documents such as
technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming
manuals, service manuals, operational specifications,
and related technical publications to communicate
clearly and effectively technical specifications and
instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquire
subject knowledge by communicating with subject matter
experts, observing prototypical equipment, referring to
technical specifications, design drawings, engineering
illustrations, and trade journals. Oversee preparation
of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches,
diagrams and charts. Conduct quality review of
The Technical Editor/Writer will create change packages
(revisions and Advance Change Notices) to technical
manuals and other technical publications and documents.
Technical subject matter is typically system level
procedures for propulsion plant components used in ships
and ship training platforms. Based on technical input
from engineers, the Technical Editor/Writer composes
updates to electronic source files in proprietary and
non-proprietary formats for publication and delivery to
fleet and shore-based end users. Composition formats
include MS Word, Framemaker, SGML and XML. The Technical
Editor/Writer uses established work flow processes,
software toolsets and checklists to accomplish
assignments and mainatains a database for tracking and
reporting the status of changes and manuals in
preparation. The Technical Editor/Writer periodically
identifies and tests upgrades to the components of a
common technical manaul publishing system as required.
BS/BA degree in related field from an accredited college
