THE OPPORTUNITY

The position of Publishing Manager, Chicken House, David Fickling Books will be responsible for all elements, administrative and editorial, of the life cycle of the US publication lists of these two UK-based imprints.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the UK Editors and Publishers to identify titles for publication in the US, prepare and schedule book and materials (including management of copy editors and proofreaders) through to US production and publication. There will also be direct author contact, answering queries/corrections and trafficking proofs. Close collaboration with the Barry Cunningham (Chicken House) and David Fickling (David Fickling Books), their staff, authors and illustrators is required.

  • Circulate books and manuscripts to the relevant Scholastic channels (primarily Clubs and Fairs) to solicit support prior to acquisition and throughout publication.

  • Prepare briefs and oversee the cover design process, write marketing and other materials to effectively position the lists for all relevant departments and attend all relevant meetings.

  • Present Chicken House and David Fickling Books at all appropriate meetings, including internal launches and sales and marketing meetings, and some external events as appropriate and as designated.

HOW YOU CAN FIT

  • This position will suit an up and coming junior editor or marketing assistant eager to learn about the wider publishing marketing place, internationally, as well as expanding their knowledge of marketing and positioning of books and authors in all domestic channels.

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • 3 years of Book Publishing Experience

  • Some editorial and/or marketing experience is required.

  • Good knowledge of editorial process with interest in marketing, plus excellent level of education and knowledge of children's books from picture books to YA.

  • Very good interpersonal skills and presentation abilities are a must, as this job involves a high degree of liaison with internal department and overseas publishing and marketing personnel - together with the determination to help manage the lists to publish successfully in the US
