Job Description:

This position is responsible, as part of a three-person team, for strategic conception and management of content creation, with a focus on young adult content for the Barnes & Noble Teen Blog. The Editor will be self-directed as the interim B&N Teen Blog Editor, and, under the direction of the team’s Senior Editor, will also be responsible for curating, writing, and editing general content. With an eye toward creating engaging, shareable, and relevant content, the Editor will help to grow the overall B&N readership in concert with his/her team to support the overall strategy as he/she defines with leadership. This role will be responsible for understanding the core audience, analyzing success metrics, and using those metrics to grow readership and engagement to meet goals as set by leadership.

Essential Functions:

• Oversee, manage, and execute editorial planning and schedule for the B&N Teen Blog

• Manage team of external content producers

• Maintain high editorial standards for the blogs, from line editing through editorial layouts

• Lead the building of content ecosystem in partnership with leadership

• Provide editorial input, oversight, and material for relevant merchandising efforts

• Help serve as the “voice of content” for the digital organization

• Partner strongly with various business partners to align content strategies to the changing business landscape

• Understand the content ecosystem and bring forward recommendations for strategic shifts in order to align to it

• Use emerging media to provide rich and robust content experiences

Position Requirements:

• Impeccable taste and an ability to bring best in class editorial voice as defined by the needs of each genre blog aesthetic

• Deep knowledge of and love for young adult literature and willingness to stay up to date on new and forthcoming titles

• Deep understanding of editorial best practices

• Ability to source and manage remote contributors

• Ability to think strategically and holistically

• Ability to partner with the business in order to align content plans to business needs

• Works well under deadlines, self-starter, innovative, team-oriented & customer-focused


• 8+ years of editorial experience

• Subject matter expertise in blog-specific genres

• Undergraduate education in writing or related field

• Strong portfolio in related work
