Job Description

The Opinion department has an opening for an experienced story editor for an exciting new endeavor: To help shape and increase our coverage of gender issues, specifically with an international focus. Gender touches on every aspect of our report, and part of this job will be devising ambitious and creative approaches to a topic that affects the lives of all of our readers. We are looking for editors who can commission and edit work from a diverse range of newsmakers, scholars, novelists, comedians, activists, scientists and people at the center of important stories in the United States and abroad.

Skill in social media, both as a tool for finding new voices and as a key way to make sure our coverage reaches as wide an audience as possible is important. As is the ability to conceive of and project manage Opinion content that takes a photo, image or graphic form.

This Guild position requires a minimum of three to five years editing opinion, analysis or ideas journalism. Experience at an opinion publication, a magazine or a feature section is preferred but not necessary.
