New York Times Senior Editor Syndicate in New York, New York
An experienced editor who handles backfielding and editing on our most important news services. Responsible for several news services, and training editorial assistants in the basics.
Experience required: Minimum of five years editing and backfielding
Maintains and fosters The New York Times Syndicate’s working relationships with staff at its content providers.
Provides editorial assistance on all projects as needed.
Works with writers to create and develop content.
Delivers all articles on designated services by deadline, edited according to each service’s parameters.
Slots edited articles as required and wherever possible uses those opportunities to show editorial assistants how to improve.
Writes bright and engaging headlines, according to each service’s parameters.
Writes headers on all articles that have informative slugs, are key worded to standard, and have the correct copyright.
Files corrections and kills as needed.
Coordinates with the photo editor to ensure that the correct art is posted with articles.
Alerts the managing editor to any changes in content process, in writing.
Alerts the managing editor to any newly available content from the provider, in writing.
Alerts the managing editor to any possibilities for updating or revising a service, in writing.
Sends advisories to clients listing new articles.
Renews Editor’s Picks every day before noon.
Slots designated editor’s pick every day before noon.
Ensures that for his or her designated services, the nytsyn.com title cards and the Salesforce service pages and product pages are up-to-date.
With manager’s approval, updates the service pages and product pages in Salesforce if a service on the roster changes.
With manager’s approval, updates information about delivery times, etc. on NYTSYN.com if a service on the roster changes.
With manager’s approval, updates the filing information in Salesforce if the process for editing a service on the roster changes.
Ensures that all services on his or her roster appear on the newsletter each month.
Assists in training all new hires.
Answers queries to the help line as appropriate.
