Job Description

The Times’s Reader Center is an initiative intended to build deeper connections between our newsroom and our audience. We are looking to hire a video editor to join our team and help run a variety of reader-focused projects. The position will primarily focus on leading our efforts to produce live interactive journalism, including Facebook Live.

The technology to go live from anywhere in the world is astounding, and has never been easier. It allows anyone, even someone with little video experience, to instantly show a scene and communicate directly with an audience. It allows journalists to pull back the curtain on their work so the audience can directly participate.

We are seeking a journalist who has experience telling visual stories, is excited about using live video to engage viewers on social platforms, has strong news judgment and experience covering breaking news and can steer innovative projects working across departments.

The position involves working with reporters and editors in New York and in bureaus around the world to brainstorm good live segments, help work through pre-production and train in best practices. The position also supports reporters and editors while they're live by providing technical and editorial support, and moderating comments. In addition, the role will look for opportunities to repackage material for stories and features on at .

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, tech-savvy self-starter with big ideas. Experience in video production, Facebook Live, social media and audience analytics and growth are all helpful, although not required. Being a pleasure to work with, however, is a requirement.
