TODAY Digital, the multi-platform arm of America’s favorite morning show, is looking for a lifestyle editor. This is a four month staff with end date role.
This person should be thrilled by all things lifestyle – our core verticals are Parents, Wellness, Home, Food, Style and Pop Culture. We’re looking for a very strong editor with a keen news sense and judgment to be the final eyes on our content and make sure it’s flawless. Typos and grammar mistakes keep you up at night. You take pride in spotting stories the internet will love before they’re everywhere, and you’ve captained both daily/trending coverage as well as big special projects, series, and social-first video.
Contributing to content, including assigning, editing and writing daily stories and multimedia features
Help identify & create trending/viral content across the lifestyle sections
Edit lifestyle stories across sections, for clarity, quality and voice
Monitor news & audience appetite and respond with a take or angle relevant to our brand, from wrangling original essays to spotting breakouts worthy of standalone headlines
Work closely with broadcast bookers, producers and correspondents to tell stories across the brand’s platforms
Manage a roster of freelance writers and recruit new writers
Plan content for future events
3+ years of journalism, with a heavy focus on lifestyle content
1+ years of experience working in an exclusively digital journalism shop
An understanding of how stories are shared and consumed differently across digital, social and mobile platforms
The ability to use analytics to help guide story selection
Proven experience overseeing successful original video seriesAdditional Job Requirements

A mentoring spirit and experience managing writers and editors
Strong and fast writing and editing; clever and SEO-friendly headlining; light multimedia skills (resizing images, creating social videos)
A gut instinct for a good story and quick decisiveness on angles and assignments
A strong sense of the TODAY voice and how to frame our stories for maximum reach across our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat, etc)
A love of the TODAY brand and appreciation for our broad range of topics and personalities – from hard news to entertainment to lifestyle, celebrities and newsmakers to ordinary individuals -- with a good grasp of topics and stories of high interest to women and young families. Enthusiasm for TV is a must.
