New York Times Editor/Senior Producer in New York, New York
The editor/senior producer for The Daily plays a key role in defining the editorial voice and tone of the show. This person helps set up the editorial agenda each day: what stories will we cover on the show, what’s our angle, what level of attention and production do we need for each piece? The editor/senior producer is also one of the primary scriptwriters for the show and one of the people with the authority to do the final edit and sign-off on the day’s episode.
Set the editorial agenda for the day
Take a lead on scripting
Be in a small rotation of people capable of doing final edit and sign-off on the day’s episode
Contribute, along with the managing producer, host(s) and executive producer, to editorial selection, writing and structure
Coach New York Times reporters and editors without audio experience
Work in Pro Tools to cut and assemble the show as needed
5-7 years experience in audio production
Must have some Pro Tools experience
Strong news judgment and experience reporting and/or editing in a news environment
A passion for podcasts and new forms of storytelling
Creative ideas about how to make smart audio shows that will get listeners hooked
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to stay calm, upbeat and professional during high-stress assignments
Collaborative spirit is a must
