Job Description

The New York Times Magazine at https://www.nytimes.com/section/magazine is seeking an assistant to work with editor-in-chief Jake Silverstein.

The ideal candidate for this position will be extremely well organized, with a keen interest in the news, strong writing skills, and the ability to deal with all levels of management and staff in a highly professional manner. A college degree, and previous experience in the editorial operations of a magazine or newsroom are required. This job will have a unique portfolio, and the pace of operations will be rapid. The right candidate will be comfortable juggling a wide variety of tasks, from administrative duties, scheduling, handling visitors, conducting research, drafting memos, preparing for internal meetings, helping to set up editorial events, junior project management, and more (the ability to anticipate problems and see around corners is crucial).

As an assistant with access to sensitive information, the candidate must also exhibit professional judgment with respect to confidentiality at all times. A thorough understanding of the daily workings of The Times is preferred.
