The Associated Press Global Investigations Editor in New York City, New York
The Associated Press seeks a Global Investigations Editor to lead its effort to execute investigative and accountability journalism in all corners of the world. Reporting to the Managing Editor, the Global Investigations Editor has the primary responsibility of producing distinct, "Only on AP" journalism in all media formats that makes news with the power and depth of its reporting. This editor will directly supervise a team of investigative editors, reporters and data journalists, and work closely with newsroom developers, visual journalists and AP reporters around the world. This editor will set strategic priorities for the team s shorter-term off-the-news investigative work and longer term investigative projects. The editor is a partner of AP s head of global enterprise, working collaboratively to constantly deliver powerful storytelling and illuminating reporting the world over.
The successful candidate will:
_ lead a team of investigative journalists in all media formats to deliver compelling spot and enterprise stories that break news, have global impact and are exclusive to AP.
_ work collaboratively with other peer editors to share resources and work to effectively lead other editors, both peers and possible deputies, toward common and jointly decided goals.
_ work collaboratively and successfully as the leader of a diverse team of journalists who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics.
_ be conversant in multi-format journalism and the crafting of an investigative report that tells stories in multiple ways to serve AP's wide-ranging set of customers.
_ pursue innovative coverage techniques while maintaining AP s standards for integrity and objectivity.
_ Work effectively with other news leaders across AP to allocate staff resources, demonstrating flexibility, teamwork and collaboration.
Qualifications: The Global Investigations Editor must have demonstrated excellence as an investigative reporter, editor or producer, with a deep record of guiding reporters, editors and producers to deliver impactful projects and investigations that make news with the power of their reporting. Applicants must be able to lead, guide, motivate and innovate, and coordinate with journalists in all corners of the AP's global newsroom. The successful candidates should have at least five years of full-time experience as a member or leader of an investigative team at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk.
_ Bachelor s degree or equivalent experience.
_ Authorization to work in the U.S. will be mandatory.
_ Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.
_ Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.
_ Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time and communicate effectively and collegially,
both in person and remotely, are key requirements.
_ History of leadership of journalists working in more than one format is a decided plus.
