The Position

Publications Editors perform technical and copyediting, provide research and editorial assistance to authors, and coordinate production of books, manuscripts, or magazines.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) is recruiting for a Publications Editor I in Carson City. This position is responsible for coordinating, researching, creating, and producing written material and documents in all environmental media (air, water, land) through various avenues including, but not limited to, the NDEP website, brochures, outreach materials and events, guidance documents, and legislative communications. The written material and documents will target a wide range of audiences, requiring the person in this position to adequately comprehend and translate complex material from multiple technical and scientific disciplines. The position will be responsible for creating internal and external newsletters and producing professional reports that convey important program information. During the legislative session, the position will work with NDEP administrators and managers to research questions received and clearly convey the research results using appropriate content (i.e. photographs, charts, tables or graphics). The position will review and edit public draft meeting minutes to ensure they are summarized in a clear, concise and error free manner that preserves the speakers' messages. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in English, journalism or closely related field and one year of technical writing or editing experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
