JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job ID: 13276 Job Details: Working Title - Engagement Editor and Reporter, WisContext Official Title - Associate Broadcasting Specialist Appointment - One year, fixed term project; renewal of this position after one year is not anticipated Location - Madison, Wisconsin Are you interested in helping build an innovative multimedia publishing project from the ground up? WisContext is a growing news and information service that builds upon the resources of Wisconsin Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Television and the University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension to cover important issues facing the state and its residents, from economics and the environment to agriculture and health. We are looking for an Engagement Editor to create and promote digital content via social media, email newsletters and a statewide syndication system. This position reports to the Managing Editor of WisContext. Responsibilities include: Develop and execute content promotion on WisContext's social media platforms and email newsletter system, with the goals of increasing audience and growing engagement. Develop and execute strategies to extend WisContext's syndication model for sharing its content with other media and educational organizations. This will include outreach efforts to publications and broadcasters in Wisconsin to promote WisContext content and tracking republished items. Use analytics tools for measuring engagement of WisContext content, and provide regular reports on website and social media metrics to inform future strategies. Create original content for WisContext, reporting original stories and building on materials created by the broadcast partners. This will include writing articles, adapting audio and video content, and creating original multimedia content for social media platforms. Assist in editing WisContext content for accuracy, copy and style, and assist in publishing content to website. Communicate and coordinate with social media and content engagement staff at Wisconsin Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Television and UW Cooperative Extension, and participate in discussions and planning about the design and improvement of WisContext's website. Participate in regular editorial meetings about WisContext to pitch ideas and contribute to discussions about story planning and multimedia projects. Essential Functions include: Excellent writing, grammar and proofreading skills. Knowledge of and strict adherence to high journalistic standards. Knowledge of and understanding of how to use social media tools to natively produce and highlight content, grow audience, build community, and extend brand promotion. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously on deadline. Ability to work non-standard hours as needed and ability to work for sustained periods at computer work station. At least 1-2 years in digital journalism, including online publishing and multimedia content creation, an interest in broadcast and print media, and an understanding of editorial best practices. Excellent writing, grammar and proofreading skills; knowledge of AP style. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple short and long-term reporting and planning activities efficiently and effectively. Experience in multiple digital production practices, which may include writing for digital platforms, copyediting, photography and graphic design, audio and video production for digital platforms, and social media content promotion. Competency with producing native social media content in accordance with industry best practices, expanding audience, growing community, and experience building and extending brand identity through creative approaches. Ability to work productively and successfully with diverse people, groups and experiences.
