Job Description

As someone with outstanding communication skills you will be responsible for supporting a range of senior leaders, including the Executive Committee (EC), in researching, drafting and creating compelling speeches to be delivered at high-profile strategic events.

You will be required to:

  • Research, craft and edit speeches and talking points for EC members to deliver at high-profile, strategic venues, such as management/leadership/industry conferences.

  • Conceive, research and write op-eds and articles that help bring Shell’s business strategy alive for external audiences, in support of the company’s overall communications strategy, for distribution via multiple communications channels, including:

  • external publications

  •, including the Inside Energy features section

  • social media

  • Play a key role in Shell's speechwriting programme, content generation and messaging to create impact with key audiences.

  • Distil and communicate key strategies and messages from Shell leadership in line with major communications themes and objectives.

  • Help identify strategic speaking opportunities globally for Executive Committee members to reach key audiences.

  • Craft other compelling editorial content as needed for distribution via a variety of communications channels to build support among external audiences for Shell’s activities.

  • Connect on a regular basis with the communications leads, subject matter experts and other key contributors as needed.

  • You will also be collaborating as part of a team and with a wide range of others across External Relations and the businesses, adapting to changes in content under development, and working to deadlines.


  • Proven ability to research, craft and edit compelling speeches and op-ed articles, working with senior leaders.

  • Strong experience of communications; skills in writing and editing with the ability to produce strong, compelling and easily understood content

  • Ability to engage, counsel and influence very senior leaders.

  • Fast learner with an ability to work under pressure.

  • Sound research methodology – familiarity with information sources, capacity to search efficiently.

  • Perceptive and diplomatic interview skills, eliciting key information from internal and external sources.

  • Ability to distil complex information into memorable and easily understandable messages, lifting out key interest points and relating to specific audience interest and needs/relevance.

  • Demonstrated ability to tell stories that engage readers/listeners.

  • Ability to help develop powerful visual aids in support of key messages/storylines.

  • Ability to work in a team.

  • Flexibility to adapt own writing style to reflect speaker’s preferences/strengths.

  • Experience of different cultures and working for a multinational company an advantage.
