The Walt Disney Company Story Editor in Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Story Editor needed for Florida portfolio, to work in partnership with project teams in creation of new theme park attractions and related facilities. In addition to high caliber writing skills, candidate must have knowledge of Disney motion picture and theme park stories, a strong sense of Disney storytelling, and the capacity to work well within a team structure.

Responsibilities :

  • Creating original story concepts and developing them through outline, treatment and final script.

  • Brainstorms within show teams, actively participates in the writers’ room and works one-on-one with concept artists and directors to help flesh out the story of a ride, environmental and/or media based attraction or related facility.

  • Incorporates consumer research, insights related to brand, franchise and marketing, and site needs assessments to inform creative story approach.

  • Works effectively under tight deadlines, while maintaining individual creative integrity; communicating effectively at all levels in all disciplines.

  • Develops nomenclature, and sign copy for supporting show and operational graphics, operational spiels, show dialogue and cast member training materials.

  • Supports company-wide internal and external communication.

  • Informal leadership to guide associate show writers and interns.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Minimum of 2 years Disney staff writing experience or similar amount of time writing for other entertainment discipline.

  • Ability to work independently on numerous projects of varying levels of complexity from concept to completion.

  • Ability to write strong dialogue, have an understanding of story structure, and to produce detailed and descriptive prose.

  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to interact in a team environment and creative leadership.

  • Ability to brainstorm; strong presentation skills and proactive problem solver.

  • Ability to influence based on being a subject matter expert.

  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, Final Draft and Keynote.

Preferred Education :

  • BA or BS degree desired.

  • Creative Writing, Playwrighting, Screen Writing, Journalism or Communications studies preferred.
