This role is part of the Science, Technology and Medical Journal (Global STMJ) Publishing Organization. STMJ has a global spread, with offices in UK, US, Europe, Middle East and APAC. In total the Global STMJ Organization consists of approximately 800 FTE who are responsible for Publishing Content (2000+ Journal titles) a growing number due to yearly new journal launches. There are 3 Vertical Publishing Units: Life Sciences & Social Sciences (LSSE), Physical Sciences(PS) and Health & Medical Sciences (HMS). Each unit is responsible for the strategic approach to their specific audiences which consist of, amongst others, Authors, Editors, Researchers, etc. The Sr Publishing Content Specialist (Procedia) is positioned within the Publishing Content team in Beijing, in the horizontal Global Publishing Development (GPD) Unit. Procedia is an e-only product focused entirely on publishing high quality conference proceedings, enabling fast dissemination so conference delegates can publish their papers in dedicated online volumes on ScienceDirect, which will then be freely available worldwide.

The Sr. PCS (Procedia) is responsible for the smooth running and publication of issues of Procedia journals by building and maintaining good customer relationships, guiding them on international STM publication best practices, ensuring services provided to the customers are in compliance with the Procedia business model, managing the invoicing, and other publishing-related aspects of Procedia journals. The Sr PCS (Procedia) is also responsible for liaising with the Journal Managers and other cross-functional departments to ensure the smooth publication of Procedia journals.

Major responsibilities

Own and manage the journal set up/closure process (30%) :

• Check contracts and ensure appropriate services are provided

• Acquire ISSN, if needed

• Own the information gathering tool (IGT) and ensure sign off

• System set ups (EES or EVISE, journal homepage including Guide for Authors, inclusion in WebShop, SD subject areas etc.) including ensuring disclaimers are correctly added to, EES/EVISE, SD

• Providing support to customers on Indexing and abstracting, apply for Scopus indexing

  • Manage internal journal closure process if needed;

 Customer relation management (25%)

• Negotiations in terms of small amendments after contract sign-ups

• Following up the progress of the journals, ensure timely publication

• Ensuring the offered services are in alignment with the contract, manage customer expectations, garantuee customer satisfaction

• Single-point of publishing contact for non-production related matters, for customers as well as Elsevier colleagues

 Day to day publishing management of journals (30%)

• Manage timely publication of Procedia issues;

• Monitor publication schedules and solve operational issues

• Responsible for invoicing process

• Customer communication for all issues

 Ad-Hoc project management (15%)

• Contribute and participate to the GPD business development initiatives

• Pro-actively flag areas for improvement in relation to publishing

Our Requirements:

• University degree

• 2-3 years (journal) production/publishing experience

• Experience in working in a complex, matrix international environment

• Team player, willing to support others

• Strong interest in multiple cultures as well as Publishing/Operations

• Commercial focus

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills

• Able to work with Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
