The Navigators Nav Press Copy Editor in Colorado Springs, Colorado

The Pre-Press Copy Editor shall serve The Navigators and fulfill the responsibilities listed below in the spirit of The Navigators calling, values and purpose: To advance the Gospel of Jesus and His kingdom into the nations through spiritual generations of laborers living and discipling among the lost.

This position manages the style and content of NavPress manuscripts as they transmit to Tyndale House Publishers (THP), as contractually outlined in the NavPress alliance. The Pre-Press Copy Editor manages the production process to ensure it runs smoothly and efficiently in order to provide Tyndale’s publishing services department with files ready for typeset.

  • Interact with Tyndale editorial and publishing services on a daily basis, with occasional scheduled face-to-face meetings.

  • Provide a secondary, more extensive, detailed copy edit on approximately twenty titles per year.

  • Edit and prepare the final style sheet to accompany manuscript to THP.

  • Assist editors, as required, with coding of manuscript(s).

  • Represent the editorial vision and mission of NavPress internally and externally.

  • Maintain good relations with authors.

  • Assist editors and author with the endorsement process as needed.

  • Anticipate needs and take initiative in all areas of NavPress, work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Develop personal skills, conflict resolution and capabilities through ongoing training.

  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Belief in and adherence to the Statement of Faith and Mission of The Navigators.

  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable editorial experience

  • Minimum of two years’ experience as copy editor or development editor.

  • Excellent knowledge of the English language, including grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word.

  • Basic and growing editorial judgment and knowledge of the complexities of writing and editing.

  • Strong leadership and management skills, including the ability to accomplish significant goals through team dynamics.

  • Professional demeanor, approach, and appearance to reflect the level of professionalism at NavPress.

  • Well suited to editorial work; loves to read, enjoys crafting words and ideas.

  • Able to see the big picture yet attentive to detail.

  • Diligent, self-disciplined, organized, and productive.

  • Desire to serve others and learn new editorial skills.
