This job was posted by : For more information, please see: Job Summary:nThe Scientific Editor will lead efforts in compiling, copyediting, writing, proofreading, and formatting scientific content for program development, scientific manuscripts, and presentations intended to support the research goals of the Simon Lab.nSpecific Responsibilities:nCommunicate and disseminate scientific research and advances to a diverse audience including scientists, physicians, patients, educators, health practitioners and the general public.Reviews scientific content and writes, edits, proofreads, and formats content for scientific manuscripts, grant applications, and reports.nPrepares content for scientific conferences, presentations, and multiple audiences; including assembling and organizing data into text and figures for scientific presentations, publications, grant applications, reports, newsletters, and websites. Tailors existing and newly created resources to diverse audiences.nCorresponds with editors and professional staff of scientific journals to ensure manuscript submission requirements are met and submissions for publication are complete.nPartners with and mentors lab members to shepherd scientific articles to publication.Participate in lab meetings and scientific discussionsnPerforms other duties as assigned.nMinimum Qualifications:nSuccessful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.nFive years of writing scientific material (original research manuscripts, review articles/book chapters, and grant applications) or other relevant experience required.nMinimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)nExcellent writing skills; able to produce clear, compelling, and eloquent textnSuperb organizational skillsnExcellent editing and proofreading skillsnMust be able to translate difficult science concepts for multiple audiencesnMust be flexible and able to drive deadline-driven projects to completionnMust be able to work independently and as part of a teamnMust be able to coordinate work by numerous contributors and manage complex processesnMust be advanced user of Microsoft Office and EndNotenPreferred Qualifications:nMaster's Degree but preferably a Ph.D. in the health or social sciencesnIndividuals who currently have research positions and have exceptional writing and editing skills are also invited to applynPreferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)nIntermediate user of Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator; experience with website content management systems is a plusnAs per Northwestern University policy, this position requires a criminal background check.
