Wolfram Research, Inc. Editor-At-Large in Champaign, Illinois

Wolfram, creator of Mathematica, Wolfram|Alpha and the Wolfram Language, is searching for a proactive individual with exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills to serve as a dedicated editorial and writing project assistant to the CEO. The Editor-at-Large will be responsible for editing, collaborating, tracking and coordinating writing and content creation activities initiated by Stephen Wolfram for his blog and other projects. This position requires editorial and project management experience, the ability to interface directly with the CEO and product development teams and schedule flexibility that allows for on-call availability for evenings and weekends. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a startup culture and will have an enthusiasm for new technologies and ideas. The application process includes an English grammar test and optional writing samples. Our Editor-at-Large will demonstrate a knack for concept interpretation, editorial oversight and proofing, as well as possess efficient time-management capabilities. He/she will be able to both follow instructions and handle projects independently. A technical background, prior experience and Wolfram Language skills are encouraged but not required; excellent editorial and communication skills are a must. Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible and irregular hours that include nights and weekends

  • Strong communication, organizational and analytical skills

  • Experience with WordPress or other blogging tools

  • Basic HTML knowledge

  • Editorial (and optionally writing) proficiency

  • Experience editing scholarly research

  • Experience working in an executive support role

  • High degree of initiative

  • Ability to interact with cross-functional teams (graphic design, web, technical content and product development)

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously

  • Previous experience with project management is a plus
