Job Description

ASSISTANT ACQUISITIONS EDITOR, MIT Press, to assist the acquisitions editor with project management for the MIT Press’s lists in computer science, artificial intelligence, robotics, and engineering across a range of publication types, including trade books, textbooks, and professional monographs. Duties include working with authors to prepare manuscripts and artwork for production; handling administrative functions such as data entry, permissions, correspondence, and payments; managing the peer review process for new projects; conducting research on competing and comparable titles; preparing production estimates, P&L; statements, and publishing plans; assisting the editors and authors as their liaison with other departments; and presenting projects at internal meetings as needed. This position offers a great opportunity to learn the book acquisitions process at a major university press.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: two years of relevant work experience, excellent organizational and communication skills, strong administrative computer skills (MS Word, FileMaker, Excel, LaTeX), and the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple task demands and manage time effectively. Must be detail-oriented and self-motivated and enjoy working in teams, but also be resourceful enough to work independently. Some background in computer science or mathematics preferred.
