Incumbent will manage production of about 20 to 25 adult trade general interest titles per year, including 3 to 5 projects with rush schedules and/or special art requirements. Managing production of a title includes maintaining schedule, coordinating workflow, coding manuscript; presenting accurate assessment of design and art requirements to in-house composition department, serving as a liaison with freelancers and author/editor; copyediting promotional material, proofchecking, collating author and proofreader changes; copyediting jacket copy; and other tasks as required by the manuscript editing and/or composition groups

This position requires a unique blend of editorial, technical, interpersonal, and troubleshooting skills; incumbent must be able to work well with many people, handle deadlines, set priorities, make decisions quickly under moderate pressure, and maintain a high level of concentration with frequent interruption, all while maintaining good communication with authors, freelancers, and in-house staff.


Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years ofTrade bookediting and production experience. Must be proficient in MS Word and other Office products. Familiarity withChicago Manual of Styleand InDesign a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)

  • The person in this position needs to move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc

  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer

  • Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
