Position overview:

The Portfolio Management Specialist is responsible for setting the vision andstrategy for product portfolios for the higher education market that meetfinancial goals. The Specialist is tasked with gaining deep marketknowledge through customer insight by establishing customer relationships thatultimately help drive product innovation, development and growth across theportfolio. This includes overseeing acquisitions of new products, developmentof new and revised programs, and expansion and investment of our digitalproduct offerings. In addition, the Specialist is responsible for establishingthe financial base for portfolio by creating P&L’s and managing budgets toachieve profitability goals.

Wecurrently have two positions open that cover the following higher educationmarkets: Marketing, Operations Management, and Business Communication.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop deep discipline and market knowledge to driveproduct development decisions for portfolio while assessing global marketdemand for both print and digital opportunities across the portfolio.

  • Establish portfolio business case and deliverportfolio/product mix and related KPI’s including financial performance,product contribution, and learner outcomes.

  • Scout for and sign new authors to build strong futureproduct pipeline.

  • Create strong author relationships with both existing and newauthors by working closely with them to outline a vision for each product.

  • Conduct ongoing market research including face-to-face meetingsand focus groups with customers on college campuses nationwide.

  • Analyze product reviews and market feedback and decide bestsolutions for our customers that drive growth.

  • Collaborate with Product Management to recommend disciplinerelevant technology roadmap improvements.

  • Create P&Ls and manage overall portfolio budget.

  • Manage revisions and new product development

  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing on revision plans, salespresentations and tools, etc.

  • Travel as needed for focus groups, conferences, events, and campusvisits to develop market insights, strengthen educator community network anddrive revenue performance

Qualifications Required

  • BA/BS.

  • At least 2 years’ experience in the publishing industry.

  • Highly analytical with the ability to synthesize multipleviewpoints into actionable plans.

  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills,with the ability to communicate effectively for a diverse audience.

  • Intellectually curious with a passion for solving customersproblems.

  • Creative problem solver who uses data to inform decisions.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment.

  • Excellent negotiation skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to travel 25%-50% of the time (seasonally based) tocolleges and universities, sales conferences and industry conferences.

QualificationsPreferred

  • 2 years experiences in higher education markets, ideally ineditorial or acquisitions related areas.
