Description

Position at Billings Gazette

The Billings Gazette, Montana’s largest newspaper, is in search of a night copy editor. We want someone who can read copy with a critical eye, and who can multitask in a fast-moving environment. This position is responsible for organizing the newspaper, making key decisions and striving to beat deadlines at night.

Daily duties include pulling wire stories, proofreading copy, headline writing, wrangling breaking news, approving pages for print, posting stories online and sharing content to social media. This person will work with a close-knit team of other editors and writers to usher stories into print, polishing them and ferreting out errors in style and fact.

If InDesign is not your thing, no worries--the paper is designed offsite. We are in need of an eagle-eyed style/grammar all-star who is adaptable and digitally savvy. This shift is approximately 3 p.m. to midnight, and you will get Wednesdays and Thursdays off.

A candidate with a newspaper background is preferred, as is experience with proofreading copy and curating social media accounts.
