PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The RFP Editor plays a lead role in executing the strategic sales objectives of T. Rowe Price’s business units. The Editor functions as the primary liaison with key principals from both U.S. and non-U.S. business units in the role of the on-going management and completion of prospect and client information requests with the objective of winning and/or retaining business or asset generation and retention.

The RFP Editor is responsible for overseeing and managing the entire proposal process, serving as an integral contributor to the client acquisition and retention process. Working within stated deadlines, the Editor collaborates directly with senior stakeholders in Sales, Marketing, Investments, Legal and other units, to strategically and accurately position T. Rowe Price and its products, personnel, policies, and procedures in proposals—broadly defined as RFPs, RFIs and DDQs. In addition to internal contacts, the RFP Editor is expected to effectively partner with, when needed, external consultants, prospects, and clients.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The RFP Editor is responsible for managing the institutional proposal process and the related network of internal and external constituents, which includes:

  • Communicating with senior sales, client service and investment professionals to assess prospect and client needs, understand the firm’s strategic advantages in the marketplace, and create proposals that express these advantages to maximum impact.

  • Working directly with business unit associates to qualify and prioritize requests (RFPs, RFIs, DDQs) and to identify key “win themes” rendered in effective positioning and messaging for each request.

  • Versioning firm’s standard responses, as needed, to ensure that competitive positioning points are communicated relevantly and effectively within each output. In support of this goal, the ability to create an impactful Executive Summary for each opportunity is critical.

  • Holistically editing each output so that each proposal exhibits editorial integrity, institutional voice, branded strategies and a high degree of readability.

  • Effectively collaborating with the entire value of stakeholders required for effective proposal creation:

  • Effectively managing and mentoring RFP Specialists in order to maximize question/answer alignment, accurately highlight outliers, ensure information and data is correctly sourced, and facilitate robust first-draft proposals;

  • Efficiently oversee or execute SME reach outs on outliers. In that regard, it is expected that the RFP Editor takes a lead role in ensuring that original or revised answers are captured and vetted, in association with contributors such as the Proposal Content Managers and the RFP Database Administrator, so that outliers are converted into answers and SMEs are not burdened with repeat requests.

  • Collaborating with market-facing associates at a high level of firm/product knowledge, client/prospect understanding, and competitive command of the marketplace managed in a spirit of transparency and candor

    • The RFP Editor needs to be an active, ongoing contributor to the evolution of the proposal operations both in terms of knowledge dissemination and in process/procedure improvement:
  • Capturing BU-specific (GISNA, GISEMEA, GIS Asia-Pacific, USI) business plans and communicating out to associates—such as the Proposal Content Managers, RFP Specialists and the RFP Content Manager — what strategies are in line for increased sales activity;

  • Tracking business unit meetings and flagging any potential encounters that could enhance RFP Team strategy development/preparation, understanding of clients/prospects/markets, and overall collaborative interface with market-facing associates;

  • Identifying and implementing “best practices” across the proposal development value chain;

  • Defining and evaluating metrics of success and quality standards; and

Participating on cross-functional project teams to assist with competitor analysis, marketing strategy, content positioning, and process development.

  • Responsible for constructing and maintaining relationships across the firm with a deep and well-diversified, senior network of Subject Matter Experts across the areas that are critical to effective proposal construction.

  • Keeping abreast of strategy/vehicle developments in terms of structure, staffing, performance and competitive strengths.

  • Attendance at, work permitting, as many firm-sponsored educational sessions as possible. Likewise, keeping abreast and attending industry events that increase degree of institutional knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred

  • MBA, CFA or Series 7 or relevant NASD registration

  • 8-12 years of institutional investment management experience with demonstrable skills in content creation and management, product mastery and positioning, proposal development and oversight, and relationship management.

  • 5 years of experience in writing/editing for institutional financial services

  • Experience with marketing communications process

Required

  • Demonstrated management skills, preferably in a multi-site environment

  • Thorough understanding of institutional and/or third party investment management business

  • In-depth knowledge of institutional investment products and services ideally across multiple distribution channels

  • Experience in investment management, analytics, financial writing or technical writing

  • Experience editing proposals

  • Mastery of fundamental investment knowledge, institutional portfolio concepts, and basic quantitative analysis

  • Strong understanding of institutional domain and competitive landscape.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Experience interfacing with senior market facing professionals

  • Strong knowledge of investments and portfolio management
