The Team Lead, RFP Editors, is responsible for the management of the RFP Editor team while overseeing and completing prospect and client information requests. The associate serves as a player/coach, able to conceive and implement an optimal strategic framework for content creation while functioning as a tactical, hands-on participant and role model in the continual upgrading of the daily stream of deliverables.

As Team Lead, the associate would be responsible for managing the RFP Editor team including regular 1-1s, performance reviews, and training and development. The associate would also serve as lead interface on behalf of RFP Editors to Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and client-facing associates on issues associated with the RFP completion process. In addition, the associate is expected to understand and represent changes required to align the ongoing processes/procedures in the service of industry-standard outputs.


1) The Team Lead, RFP Editors, is charged with providing leadership, management and strategic direction for a senior level of ICM associates: RFP Editors and Associate RFP Editor(s) and editorial support of their respective outputs. The associate will work with the RFP Specialist Team Lead and Senior Editorial Manager to prioritize work and collaborate on how best to ensure consistency of process and quality of outputs.

The managerial/editorial responsibilities include:

  • Establishing optimal/aspirational skill sets, with a focus on editorial acumen, for each position reconciled with the current competencies of each incumbent.

  • Establishing a “best practices” model for each role in terms of institutional content competency and an attendant program to meet those standards.

  • Modeling skills and competencies through the tactical execution of RFPs, RFIs and DDQs.

2) In terms of the RFP Editor aspect of the position, the associate is responsible for managing the institutional proposal process and the related network of internal and external constituents, which includes:

  • Communicating with senior sales, client service and investment professionals to assess prospect and client needs, understand the firm’s strategic advantages in the marketplace, and create proposals that express these advantages to maximum impact.

  • Working directly with business unit associates to qualify and prioritize requests (RFPs, RFIs, DDQs) and to identify key “win themes” rendered in effective positioning and messaging for each request.

  • Versioning firm’s standard responses, as needed, to ensure that competitive positioning points are communicated relevantly and effectively within each output. In support of this goal, the ability to create an impactful Executive Summary for each opportunity is critical.

  • Holistically editing each output so that each proposal exhibits editorial integrity, institutional voice, branded strategies and a high degree of readability.

  • Collaborating with the entire value of stakeholders required for effective proposal creation:

  • Managing and mentoring RFP Specialists to facilitate robust first-draft proposals including oversight of accurate question/answer alignment, proper outlier identification and correct sourcing of information and data;

  • Overseeing or executing SME reach-outs on outliers. In that regard, it is expected that the RFP Editor takes a lead role in ensuring that original or revised answers are captured and vetted, in association with contributors such as the Proposal Content Managers and the RFP Content Manager, so that outliers are converted into answers and SMEs are not burdened with repeat requests.

  • Working with market-facing senior associates on topics including firm/product knowledge, client/prospect preference, and the competitive landscape, in a spirit of transparency and candor.

  • Keeping abreast of strategy/vehicle developments in terms of structure, staffing, performance and competitive strengths.

3) The Team Lead, RFP Editors, needs to be an active, ongoing contributor to the evolution of the proposal operations both in terms of knowledge dissemination and in process/procedure improvement. The associate will work with the Senior Editorial Manager to:

  • Capture BU-specific (GISNA, GISEMEA, GIS Asia-Pacific, TPD, RPS) business plans and communicate out to associates—such as the Proposal Content Managers, RFP Specialists and the RFP Content Manager — what strategies are in line for increased sales activity;

  • Track business unit meetings and flag any potential encounters that could enhance the RFP Team’s strategy development/preparation, the understanding of clients/prospects/markets, and the overall collaborative interface with market-facing associates;

  • Identify and implement “best practices” across the proposal development value chain;

  • Define and evaluate metrics of success and quality standards; and

  • Participate on cross-functional project teams to assist with competitor analysis, marketing strategy, content positioning, and process development.



  • MBA, CFA or Series 7 or relevant NASD registration

  • 8-12 years of institutional investment management experience with demonstrable skills in content creation and management, product mastery and positioning, proposal development and oversight, and relationship management.

  • 5 years of experience in writing/editing for institutional financial services

  • Prior supervisory and/or people management experience

  • Experience with marketing communications process


  • Demonstrated management skills, preferably in a multi-site environment

  • Thorough understanding of institutional and/or third party investment management business

  • In-depth knowledge of institutional investment products and services ideally across multiple distribution channels

  • Experience in investment management, analytics, financial writing or technical writing

  • Experience editing proposals

  • Mastery of fundamental investment knowledge, institutional portfolio concepts, and basic quantitative analysis

  • Strong understanding of institutional domain and competitive landscape.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Experience interfacing with senior market facing professionals
