Posting Job Description

Duties: The main responsibilities of the Newsource Copy Editor are: copy editing scripts for content, style, accuracy and clarity; mentoring and training Newsource writers and producers; acting as a shift supervisor for the Newsource newsroom. COPY EDITING: ensuring all scripts distributed by Newsource are accurate and adhere to CNN style, attribution, balance, clarity, context, conversational style, creativity, grammar, punctuation and spelling. Making appropriate corrections to said scripts. This also includes overseeing writing work flow to ensure scripts are completed within deadlines. Researching and writing scripts as necessary. MENTORING AND TRAINING STAFF: Providing all writers and producers tactful and constructive feedback about their scripts both in real-time and post-shift. Bringing struggling writers up to speed and growing the better-performing writers. Training new writers in CNN style and Newsource work flow. SHIFT SUPERVISING: Acting as the editorial shift leader in conjunction with the Senior Assignment Editor/Producer, and other managers on duty. Leading a team of writers and contributing to the performance reviews.

Qualifications: bachelors or equivalent work experience. Course of study in Broadcast journalism or English highly desired.

News writing experience - 3 years

Copy editing experience - 1 year

Mentoring/coaching - 1 year

Line producing experience, affiliate newsroom experience, Social media experience

Excellent customer service skills A Plus.
