Position Summary:This is the Multimedia Editor position at The Northern Light, the student newspaper at the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Job summary: The Multimedia Editor oversees all aspects of multimedia for The Multimedia Editor will work with assigned section editors to gather information and actualities necessary to produce assignments for The Northern Light newspaper. This includes, but is not limited to: writing content, collecting audio, video, and still photographs. The Multimedia Editor collaborates with the section editors and the managing editor and reports to the executive editor.

The Northern Light is a weekly University of Alaska Anchorage student publication, funded by both media fees and advertising sales. The paper is published Tuesdays during the school year and once a month during the summer. The Northern Light is distributed throughout the UAA campus and the Anchorage community. Total distribution is 2,500 copies weekly during the spring and fall semesters and 2,500 copies twice monthly during the summer semester. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Applicants must have knowledge of Associated Press style. Applicants must have proficiency with Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier, Photoshop, digital camcorders, Internet concepts and technologies, Wordpress software and Apple Macintosh operating systems. The ability to capture video and use a video-editing program to produce the footage is required. The applicant also has to be proficient in developing story and characters.

Typical Education or Training: Experience with multimedia creation and editing. Strong grasp of social media practices. Preferred experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript and Flash. Familiarity with uploading video to the Internet by use of Youtube, Vimeo or something similar.

To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must: (a.) Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or (b.) Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and (c.) Have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee; (d.) Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer; (e.) An application must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility

Duties: Multimedia Editor oversees all aspects of multimedia for Must combine stories, graphics, photos and other elements into different multimedia packages, including videos, podcasts and KRUA radio stories. Film and record audio for stories on human interest, news, sports, features, arts and entertainment both on campus and in the community. Produce multimedia that ranges from unedited video clips to highly produced multimedia projects. Must post content weekly and produce video package bi-monthly. Work closely with the Managing Editor and Web Editor to execute The Northern Light's multimedia strategy. Works with section editors, reporters and other employees to develop ideas for multimedia content. Attends weekly staff meetings. This position reports to the Executive Editor.
